Psalm 20

New International Version

Psalm 20^[a]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

¹May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;^(A)
    may the name of the God of Jacob^(B) protect you.^(C)
²May he send you help^(D) from the sanctuary^(E)
    and grant you support^(F) from Zion.^(G)
³May he remember^(H) all your sacrifices
    and accept your burnt offerings.^[b]^(I)
⁴May he give you the desire of your heart^(J)
    and make all your plans succeed.^(K)
⁵May we shout for joy^(L) over your victory
    and lift up our banners^(M) in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.^(N)

⁶Now this I know:
    The Lord gives victory to his anointed.^(O)
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
    with the victorious power of his right hand.^(P)
⁷Some trust in chariots^(Q) and some in horses,^(R)
    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.^(S)
⁸They are brought to their knees and fall,^(T)
    but we rise up^(U) and stand firm.^(V)
⁹Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us^(W) when we call!

Exodus 40:1-15

Setting Up the Tabernacle

40 Then the Lord said to Moses: ²“Set up^(A) the tabernacle, the tent of meeting,^(B) on the first day of the first month.^(C) ³Place the ark^(D) of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. ⁴Bring in the table^(E) and set out what belongs on it.^(F) Then bring in the lampstand^(G) and set up its lamps. ⁵Place the gold altar^(H) of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.

⁶“Place the altar^(I) of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; ⁷place the basin^(J) between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. ⁸Set up the courtyard^(K) around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.

⁹“Take the anointing oil and anoint^(L) the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings,^(M) and it will be holy. ¹⁰Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate^(N) the altar, and it will be most holy. ¹¹Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.

¹²“Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting^(O) and wash them with water.^(P) ¹³Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments,^(Q) anoint him and consecrate^(R) him so he may serve me as priest. ¹⁴Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.^(S) ¹⁵Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue throughout their generations.^(T)”

A Call to Persevere in Faith

¹⁹Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence^(A) to enter the Most Holy Place^(B) by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰by a new and living way^(C) opened for us through the curtain,^(D) that is, his body, ²¹and since we have a great priest^(E) over the house of God,^(F) ²²let us draw near to God^(G) with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings,^(H) having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience^(I) and having our bodies washed with pure water.^(J) ²³Let us hold unswervingly to the hope^(K) we profess,^(L) for he who promised is faithful.^(M) ²⁴And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,^(N) ²⁵not giving up meeting together,^(O) as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another^(P)—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.^(Q)
